About Hardware Editor
Hardware Editor answers specific home hardware questions directly. Each page covers one problem, cites its sources, and gets to the answer fast.
We started Hardware Editor because most home hardware advice online is buried in filler content, vague generalities, or product upsells. Homeowners want to know what works. We answer that.
How we work
Articles are written by the Hardware Editor Editorial Desk. Our process:
- We pick questions real people ask — not keyword targets
- We cite each claim at the point it's made, with links
- We test methods ourselves or reference trades with hands-on experience
- We say when something won't work, even if it's popular advice
We do not run sponsored content, affiliate placements, or product promotions. Brand names appear when they're the right answer — and they're left out when they're not.
Our sources
We reference manufacturer technical data, published trade literature, licensed contractor knowledge, and where possible, hands-on testing. When sources disagree, we explain the disagreement rather than paper over it.
